Sixth Form Open Evening 2015

On Thursday evening both Sixth Form students and staff came together to showcase the multitude of both academic and vocational courses on offer for St. Mary’s 2016 enrolment.

Prospective Year 10 and 11 students from across the Fylde jumped at the opportunity to see what our sixth form had to offer, many of whom were particularly impressed with our top notch and top floor bespoke teaching areas, the abundance of information and advice, our very own subject teachers had to share with them.

It was, without doubt, a great chance to get a true feel for what our sixth form has to offer. Moreover, those prospective students and their parents who visited our open evening, most definitely came out of the event more informed about their A Level and Post-16 pathways.

The night was a great success, aided not least by the Notarianni’s ice cream, but also the fantastic showcase of work and information on display on the night, beautifully put together by the students and staff – the sheer effort that had gone into the displays did not go unnoticed, as seen in the photos below…

Looking forward – the Sixth Form team welcome any questions or queries from prospective students thinking about joining us in 2016/2017, either coming from St Mary’s or externally, by contacting Jennifer Burrough on extension 2547 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. St. Mary’s Sixth Form Dancing Queens!

Three of our current sixth form girls are celebrating after a clear win in a regional dancing competition with English Town and County Carnival Organisation. Courtney Gardiner, Leah England and Darnell Weber were part of the Broadway Stars Morris Dancing Team who swept the competition away to make Diamond Senior Champions, in addition to being named runner up Diamond Senior Team who won the most competitions in 2015.

The English Town and County Carnival Organisation championships were held at Pontins, Southport where the girls and their experienced team won by a clear margin of seven points, much to the delight of their team and many supporters.

Courtney Gardiner, currently studying ICT, Photography, RS and Media at St. Mary’s Sixth Form said: 'I'm having a great time at the moment and am really busy. I'm elated to have won the competition with my team and to have all our hard work celebrated. I've danced competitively for 12 years and enjoy the community and team spirit we have. Sixth Form was supportive of us all and the time we needed to compete. I just had time to relax after Southport before a hectic but fantastic photography trip to Liverpool last week - and will be helping out at our Sixth Form Open Evening. Studying at St. Mary's is never dull!'
