Year 6 Taster Day

Year 6 Students enjoying taster dayYear 6 came into College today for their first taste of what life will be like for them when they join us full time in September. We had pupils from over 20 different primary Schools from across Blackpool and all the pupils mingled well at break and lunchtime. We hope many new friendships have been formed on this day.
The pupils took part in a number of different activities but started the day in a special way by having a liturgy in the College Chapel with our lay chaplains and the Year 8 Active Group. Activities in class included -

1) ICT - Webquest - how to search for Key words in Search Engines
2) English - Studying storyline opening and endings
3) Science- Chemical reactions and It’s a Bug’s Life

5) Maths - Naming and ordering angles

In the afternoon the pupils met their form tutor and had an introduction session on what life will be life for them in September. The pupils enjoyed their day thoroughly – see the pictures in the gallery

Blackpool Young People's Council

Nicole with her two election campaigners, Emily Ashworth and Katie Dziubinska
Congratulations to Nicole Burke who was appointed to the lead position in the Blackpool Young People’s Council.  Nicole, along with her two deputies, were appointed to the positions following votes lodged over the Internet and at the town hall.

It is a tremendous achievement for a Year 7 pupil to be leading a youth council who represent the views of 11 to 18 years olds in the town.  However, this is a testimony to a pupil whose intelligence, awareness of society and public affairs, and ability to articulate her views go beyond her modest years.  This recognition is thoroughly deserved.

The Blackpool Young People’s Council meet monthly at the town hall and discuss issues for Nicole to represent at the regional and national youth parliament meetings as well as acting on detail from the regional and national agendas.

Anyone who is 11 to 18 years old is eligible to attend the youth council meetings.  More information can be gained by clicking this hyperlink  http://www.ukyp.co.uk

ActionAid Update

Dieudonne Jean LouisYear 7 continue to support Dieudonne in Haiti.  Well done to all the Year 7 pupils who every week make a contribution at the end of their assembly.  They are making such a difference to Dieudonne and her family.  Year 9 are also currently looking at the possibility of sponsoring a child through ActionAid.

We haven't had any letters recently but we thought that you might like to read about Kimwetich from Kenya.  Mrs. Eaves and her family have sponsored for some years.  The boy who they were sponsoring has now left school.  ActionAid now puts their contribution towards the 'Next Step' initiative.  Click the read more button to find out just how important it is to Kimwetich and his family.
