Castlerigg Manor

ImageOn January 30th some of our Year 11s went to Castlerigg Manor on our annual retreat.  The group gained a lot from a range of activities which helped them to explore how we live and our relationship with God and each other.

Highlights of the trip include the walks in absolutely freezing temperatures, the Thursday night disco, some lovely quiet prayer time in the Chapel and Mr McDonough's convincing table-tennis victory over Stephen Townsend!

ImageI am pleased to be able to tell you that a copy of the College’s Ofsted Inspection Report is now uploaded to the College website.  The inspection was an extremely rigorous process that was professionally led by Mr Jim Bennetts HMI.  I was delighted that the Ofsted Team recognised that our College was a good school “in all aspects of its work”.

The Governors are extremely pleased and proud of the achievement of the College over the past few years.
The success of St Mary’s can be attributed to the work of the teaching staff, students, ancillary staff, Senior Management Team and Headteacher.  All this work has been carried on whilst the College was undergoing a major building project, which thankfully is now complete. Recognition of all this hard work and achievement was acknowledged by the Ofsted Inspectors. Their report is a glowing testament to all staff and students at the College.
Finally, the Governors would like to thank Mr David Lund and his colleagues at the Education Department of Blackpool Borough Council and the Diocesan Education Service for all their help and assistance.
Over the coming months and years I hope that you will continue to work with us to further improve the high quality of education on offer.  Your support in ensuring your son/daughter has very high levels of attendance would be greatly appreciated.

Chairman of Governors

Year 11 Revision Gets Under Way

ImageDuring the last couple of weeks a Year 11 Revision Programme has been started. This involves taking groups of Y11 students to the City Learning Centre for a couple of hours to look at styles of learning, how the brain works and how best to engage in Revision. On Thursday 16th February there will be a Parents’ and Students’ Evening when Individual Revision Plans will be handed out to the students ready for the start of the Revision Scheme which starts on Monday 6th March. Of course before then is half term, an excellent opportunity for  revision for the Mock Examinations which start on the Monday after we return – 27th February. Good Luck to all the Year 11 students as they enter the final furlong of their compulsory College education – perhaps they can beat the 60% record achieved last summer!
