The last two Thursdays have seen wonderful celebrations of Advent in different but inspiring ways. On December 1st, Christ the King church welcomed us to an evening of prayer and performance by our family of Catholic Schools in Blackpool. Each school shared their interpretation of Advent and why it is so important, as well as celebrating the end of the Year of Mercy. We saw drama, dancing and singing all in unique ways. The Primary schools, along with CAFOD opened our eyes to the theme of justice for the poor, which is a key motive in our Advent readings. The evening was a wonderful way of starting the Advent Season, and raised £71.31 for CAFOD.
The following week, the 8th December, St. Mary’s hosted the Advent Festival. In this, we heard readings from our Head Boy, girl and their deputies about the coming of Jesus, saw videos that opened our eyes to what we can do to prepare ourselves for his coming. We watched 3 fantastic performances by Academy Extra and were treated to some beautiful singing from the choir. The Year 13 Business Studies class helped with organising the evening and a special thank you to Mr Heyes who directed Academy Extra and Mr Marsh who arranged the choir. The evening raised £50.20 for SVP.
