St Mary's is located in Blackpool, on the Fylde Coast, in Lancashire. We're about two miles from the coast and Blackpool town centre. Much of the Fylde Coast, especially Blackpool, is based around tourism, but there are plenty of slower more traditional local towns and villages such as historic Poulton-Le-Fylde, Wrea Green and Kirkham to name a few, all within a few miles of us in the beautiful surroundings of the Fylde and Wyre countryside.
There's always something fun happening on the Fylde to keep you entertained. Here's just a small selection of events that usually take place each year, with many free to attend.
Blackpool also boasts the Winter Gardens, Zoo, indoor climbing, Grand Theatre, Grundy Art Gallery, Sealife Centre, Madame Tussauds waxworks, and the Pleasure Beach. Beyond the miles of beautiful sandy beaches of the Fylde Coast, the scenic Lake District National Park and Forest of Bowland AONB are within easy reach. But if you wish for something more urban, then Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster and other vibrant cities in the North West are also close by.
The Fylde has many sporting activities and facilities. There are three main local football teams, Blackpool FC, Fleetwood FC and AFC Fylde. There are many cricket grounds, tennis clubs, golf courses including the Royal Lytham & St Anne's Golf Club and other sporting venues. Many Fun Runs and a Marathon happen up and down the promenades and beaches too. The award winning Stanley Park in Blackpool holds an athletics track, boating lake and beautiful gardens. There are scenic walks along the promenade, the river Wyre, Lancaster Canal and the nearby Bowland Forest and Lake District.
St. Mary's is located 4.5 miles from junction 4 of the M55, 1 mile from Layton Train Station and less than 2 miles from Blackpool North Station. The M55 connects the Fylde peninsula to the M6 at junction 32 providing easy commuting from farther afield. Train services from Blackpool North and Blackpool South both travel to Preston to join the main line with services direct to London taking about 3 hours. Blackpool Transport operate local bus services across the Fylde and the historic tramway travels from the south of Blackpool all the way to Fleetwood along the seafront and is currently undergoing expansion into the Blackpool town centre.
