Poet Laureate Competition Winners
The two winners are McKenzie (Y9) and Hermione (Y10). These are the winning entries:
The Autumn arrives
The autumn arrives with regal ease,
Delighted to bless us with her delicate grace.
Though the first wind blows, all hope appears lost,
Wishing for that array of reds and golds.
How vibrant a time for weather so fierce,
A dominating roar, yet with a gentle embrace.
All that we see becomes discoloured in hue,
With golden flutters from the dwindling trees.
An unveiling of Nature’s twisted limbs,
Her flaws, the birth of her beauty,
How mighty and proud she grasps the heavens,
Determined to prevail.
The strength of the autumn was never to last,
For the winter chill will soon set in,
Bellows and booms as the frost descends.
Beware the Wintry Bear.
A time of comfort, a time of rest,
Warmth provided by a crackling flame.
All the while, the icy beast lurks,
Waiting for the time to strike.
Howling of wind, and shrieking of the air,
Wails of the misery winter inflicts.
Though the majestic Queen shall return once more,
A spark of hope for an age, so bleak.
However elegant she may be,
All the strength of her gale,
Autumn is the time to remember,
A swirling adventure, the headlight through the rain.
As the leaves fall
I sit at my bedroom window,
And every night.
Watching the leaves falling,
Like wings of gold in flight.
I find it so amazing
And truthfully quite dazing.
That out my bedroom window,
That tree was once so full.
Although now most would say,
That tree is quite so dull.
As those leaves fell,
It revealed an inner beauty,
Each and every part.
Now I would say that tree is mighty,
Truly, a work of art.
The breeze grows cold and brisk,
The fronds grow old and crisp.
The calm and peaceful scene begins to please,
As the leaves fall from that very same tree.
